What is Boston University Research in Science & Engineering Program (RISE)?

Boston University Research in Science & Engineering Program (RISE) is a program that is focused on providing better learning and research opportunities about their STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) knowledge. It is the program for the students of the junior year of their high school, where they will be spending 6 weeks practicing lab research at the university.

Research tracks offered at Boston University Research in Science & Engineering Program (RISE)

The Boston University Research in Science & Engineering Program (RISE) offers 2 different research tracks. One is an internship, while the other is a practicum. The internship programs help students tackle the research programs with the mentorship of faculty, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. They can take part in any of the following areas of study:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Computer engineering
  • Computer science
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Astronomy and a few others.

Practicum is the track where you can learn about the different models of the brain, including neuroscience, scientific method, neurobiology. All of this while designing the computational models of the human brain. This track is conducted in the form of intensive lectures, and you will be conducting the group research products under the supervision of your instructor. Everything done here will be based on research.

Who is Eligible for Boston University Research in Science & Engineering Program (RISE)?

To be eligible for the Boston University Research in Science & Engineering Program (RISE), you need to be a high school student entering the 12th grade in fall 2022. The other eligibility requirements are fulfilled in the application section.

How to apply for Boston University Research in Science & Engineering Program (RISE)?

When you are going to apply for the Boston University Research in Science & Engineering Program (RISE), you need to fill an online application form. You need to fill this application form within the deadline of 14th February 2022. When you fill this application, you need to provide the recommendations by 21st February 2022.

The application process consists of three main parts.

The first part is to complete the online application. This part consists of essays that you have to write according to the asked questions. Attaching the recommendations. Two recommendations are needed. You need to provide the email addresses of 2 people who will recommend you and submit a recommendation on your behalf. You also need to provide an application fee of $50, which is nonrefundable. It can be paid online at the time when you are submitting your application.

The second part is the material uploading part. You will get a link to the email that you provide and upload all the following things there:

  • Your high school transcript with results up till fall 2021
  • Standardized test scores for the following tests: SAT, PSAT, ACT. Attaching the official screenshots is fine.

The last step is to provide the financial documents. IT is necessary if you need scholarship/financial aid.

Tuition and Scholarship

The total tuition fee is $4900, Services fees are an additional $470, and Health services will cost $25 per visit. If you need board or room options, then you need to choose any of these options
