What is the Princeton University Summer Journalism Program?

The Princeton University Summer Journalism Program is a summer program for low-income high school students. The program takes more than 40 students from across the country every year to have a 10 day or more summer program where they can explore all the current affairs and world affairs.

This exploration is led by the professors at the university and some alumni from the campus. Apart from those, some professional journalists also participate in this program to provide a better experience to those students. One of the best parts is that this program offers a free residential and college prep program for the excellent students from high schools who are interested in journalism.

Who is Eligible for Princeton University Summer Journalism Program?

To qualify for the program, every student needs to meet all the given requirements for the Princeton University Summer Journalism Program. Those requirements include:

  • You must be a junior at your high school when you are applying.
  • You must have an excellent academic record.
  • You must be living in the U.S. as plan to attend your college here. If you do not meet this requirement, then you will not be considered in any case.
  • You must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of a total of 4.0
  • You must be interested in Journalism as a student

You must either qualify for a fee waiver by SAT or ACT, or you must improve quality for reduced-price or free lunch in the high school you are enrolled in, or the combined income of your parents or guardians, including all the funds, must not be above $60000

After you meet all of these requirements, you will be eligible to apply, but it does not mean that you will be selected for sure. Princeton University Summer Journalism Program will select students according to their criteria.

How to apply for Princeton University Summer Journalism Program?

The application for the Summer 2022 program is open, and you need to submit the applications on the due date. The due date is on Monday 28th February 2022. The application process required you to complete an application online. It includes all the information about the following things:

  • Your academics
  • An unofficial transcript for your high school record
  • All the details about your family finances, including the combined income and child support funds
  • Contact information your guidance counselors
  • 2 short responses to the asked questions
  • 1 longer article as asked
  • By filling in all the details, you will submit your application.

Tuition and Scholarship

One of the best things about Princeton University Summer Journalism Program is that it is a completely free program. There is no tuition fee for this program as there is no need to get any scholarship as well. You only need to meet the minimum finance eligibility requirements.

 If you do not meet, then it is necessary to show proof of having a free/reduced-price lunch at your high school. If you do not even meet that, you need a fee waiver by the standardized tests, including SAT and ACT exams. By meeting any of the requirements, you can get yourself eligible for this summer program.
